Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to dish out some poetry. I usually write something every year for this occasion, and yes I have written stuff for girls before. One instance in particular comes to mind. I like to think that she was so puzzled by my poetry that she was left speechless.
Here's what happened. There was this girl that I really liked so I decided to tell her exactly how I felt. I wasn't sure how to do it, but since valentine's day was around the corner I decided to get her some chocolates, a necklace thingy, and write her a poem...

"There was this girl..."
I did a lot moseying, digging, and straight up stalking in order to prepare the best Valentine's Day gift I was capable of. In my eyes it took a lot of effort, and what results did it bring to the table? None. She didn't return the sentiment. The smart move would be to move on.
The chocolates were easy to identify. All I needed to do was ask her friend, which in turn could have been my first mistake. You can never trust their friends. The trinket was an interesting endeavour. I learnt a lot about buying stuff for girls from that. I can't remember what I got her exactly, but I know it was a safe choice. The poem was all me.
However, I made the mistake of being too sneaky, which ended up causing me a whole lot of trouble. I convinced myself that if I had played my cards "better" I would have gotten the desired result. So it turned into a one sided game of tag, except I had no chance of winning. Sometimes we can be so caught up in catching someone that we forget the true meaning behind the chase in the first place.
"The focus is affection, not deception."
If you're going to do something for a special someone this Valentine's Day, just remember why you're doing it. The fourteenth is a day for couples, not singles, so if you plan to make your move it has to be sincere. Be sincere to your significant other, but also to yourself. Don't make it something it's not.
"Oh yea, and here's a poem!"
On an unrelated note, this time I've got something special. It's a poem that has nothing to do with the story above. I wrote it on the fourth, and preceded to edit it over the course of two days. If you've been reading this blog every day you might have noticed that this post itself has been changing every few hours. When it comes to words, I like to make sure I'm efficient. Nobody likes a long slog of characters and conjunctions. So here it is, finally.
The Best Words
So
I want to tell you
you're beautiful.
No, "Cool." That'd be less forward.
Or is that bad tact?
I mean you're perfect.
Smart, kind, you can even dance.
I'm scared to take a chance here.
I'll be casual
since that always works.
No. It makes things worse.
You never understand
my subtle hints and complex gestures.
Just to impress this girl because she's amazing.
It's crazy I say.
The trouble I go through to be smooth.
It seemed way simpler to talk
when I didn't care,
but now I do.
I'll be simple.
So
I want to tell you
you're beautiful.
No. "I love you."

I hope that piece of literature spoke to you. Hopefully you'll see it as more than just a Valentine's Day poem. If you're moved by it please let me know. Don't be afraid to lay all your interpretations and criticisms in the comments!
