This is a Thing - Indomie Burger

I used to be hopeless in the kitchen. Creativity and innovation were words that didn't correlate with the food part of my brain. It's true that I was able to fry an egg by the age of nine, and I was able to boil kettles of water at the earlier age of seven, but that was the extent of my abilities. It was only a matter of time before I arrived at the instant noodle phase. Yes, the phase of life where you discover the wonders of cup noodles and three minute miracles. However, you get sick of instant noodles.

"Then everything changed when the fire nati- I mean, when I started using the internet..."
With many years of training, and countless hours of practise and determination, I bring you the secrets to enlightenment. The true path: The Indomie Burger.

It's no surprise that we'll be using burger patties and Indomie in this recipe. I mean what with it being called the Indomie Burger and all. That being said you can put what ever you want in it. The real tricky part about this whole dish is making the "buns". To start you'll want to make your Indomie like you normally would. That means including the flavouring and dried shallots in the mix.

For those of you sorry souls who don't know what Indomie is, then I'll give you a brief explanation. Indomie is a form of instant noodles that is eaten without the soup. You boil the noodles to get them soft, tip out the water, and follow up with the sauces, oil, flavouring, and dried onions included in the pack. A good tip is dunk your packet of oil in the hot water for a moment in order to liquefy the coagulated bits.

Getting back to the buns. You want to separate your noodles into two halves. Get out a single egg and beat it. This is the secret ingredient that helps you keep the noodles together. Alternatively, you can create the buns without the eggs if you want, but it will require more of your own skill to keep the noodles intact.

Take one set of the noodles and place them in a small tupperware lid. DO NOT CHUCK THE LID ON THE PAN. We're just using it as a place to mix the egg and the noodles together. Using your chopsticks, try to toss the noodles around. You want to entangle the strands as much as possible. The egg will naturally fill the gaps and when you're ready move on to the next phase.

Did I mention you need to have a pan rearing to go? No? Well get one going then. You're going to fry your noodles to make the base of the burger. Make sure the pan is oiled up and hot enough to hear the sizzle on first contact. Take your lid full of noodle and egg mix and take a deep breath. Flip the lid and guide the noodles as they fall. If you did it right it should look like the picture. If the noodles didn't fall together, don't panic, just get your spatula and push everything together. A little pressing from the top doesn't hurt either.

After some time, gently tease the edges of your noodle bun. If you feel like the bottom has nicely browned up then you can flip it. This needs to be done fast, but make sure most of the noodle bun is on the spatula to ensure minimal break down. After some time browning you can set aside your noodle bun and the rest is history.

In short, just fry your noodles to make the buns and voila you have a new way to eat your instant noodles. Will you try this out? What does it taste like? Is this the craziest thing you've ever seen? Let me know in the comments!
